The next slam we had a chance to experience was the newest on the scene, organized by the Intangible Collective at 116 MacDougal (former Gaslight Cafe).
The Intangible Collective is a group of artists, aiming to connect with and empower other artists, audiences and communities through multiple mediums of creative expression via live performance, publications, and educational workshops.
Intangible Slam is actually the newest PSI certified Poetry Slam Venue and the fourth slam team competing out of New York City at the national level. Their aim is to help reclaim the root of the oral tradition and to encourage the written gifts just as much as the spoken. They stress a focus on originality and innovation as well as a balanced approach to spoken word which gives equal credence to both the word and the voice. They honor the soul of the artform as valuable beyond points and victories while still retaining a vigorous competitive spirit. Theye want to win. But they want to do it for the right reasons.
The event was the qualifier for the Individual World Poetry Slam event held in October in Cleveland, Ohio.
